Deputy Devin Hodges Killed
Anderson County, SC – Anderson County Deputy Devin Hodges was killed Thursday, June 1, 2017 by a boat propeller.
Deputy Devin Hodges was participating in a joint training exercise between the Army Corps of Engineers and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, according to WSPA.
Details aren’t clear on what happened, but at some point all three deputies in the sheriff’s office boat got thrown from the boat.
Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman announced that while participating in the training exercise, Deputy Hodges fell out of a boat and struck his head on a propeller. The hero was transported to AnMed Medical Health Center where he died.
The two other deputies who were ejected from the boat were also taken to the hospital for undisclosed injuries.
All of the deputies were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.
Sheriff Chad McBride described Deputy Hodges as a “great officer” and a “godly man” who is in heaven now.
Anderson County Sheriff’s office released the following statement about the incident:
“The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office is deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and family member in an incident that occurred early this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with our deputy and his family during this difficult time. We ask that you please allow us this time to grieve and to keep us in your prayers.”
