Deputy Rebecca Raymond And Brian White Killed In Crash
Big Bear, CA – Newly-engaged San Bernardino Sheriff’s Deputy Rebecca Joan Raymond, age 28, Deputy Raymond’s fiance, U.S. Army pilot Brian White, were killed in an airplane crash on Saturday, July 29.
San Bernardino deputies responded about 10:30 PM Saturday to the Apple Valley Airport to check if one of the victims’ vehicles was there when the plane was reported to be overdue flying back from Big Bear.
They contacted the airport to advise them of the vehicle being found, and asked for assistance in locating the couple, according to ABC7.
A search was begun from the sky looking in the area from the Big Bear Airport to the Apple Valley Airport. On Sunday, July 30, about 9:30 AM, a helicopter crew located the wreckage of a single-engine aircraft in a remote area of Big Bear Mountain. A flight crew member was dropped down to the site and found both Deputy Rebecca Raymond and Brian White dead.
A close friend, Debbie Payne, said that the couple had met two years ago at a party, and that White had rented a single-engine Cessna 172 to take Deputy Raymond to Big Bear in celebration of their anniversary. It was there that White proposed to Deputy Raymond on Friday, July 28.
Deputy Raymond was assigned to the Barstow Sheriff’s Station, and was a one-year veteran of the agency.
The FAA and the NTSB will be assisting the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Aviation Division with the investigation. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.
Nearby law enforcement agencies posted their condolences to social media.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of San Bernandino Sheriff’s Deputy Rebecca Raymond and Brian White, both blood and blue.
Godspeed, ma’am, we will take the watch from here. Thank you for your service.
