An armed homeowner was able to keep a wanted man at bay as he waited for deputies to respond in Kershaw County, Tuesday.
The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office said Christopher Cravets, 21, who was wanted on armed robbery charges, had run from a residence on Seminole Way in Elgin a few hours before.
Deputies responded to that home looking for Cody Jackson, 26, who was a suspect in the theft of two automobiles. Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said Jackson tried to run away and made it several hundred yards before a deputy took him down.
Belcher said that he found Cravets hiding in an abandoned vehicle located in a carport on the property. He said, “I came out to check the green Explorer and saw somebody in the back and I just pulled my weapon and ordered him out of the vehicle and made him get on the ground until the police got here.”
When police arrived Cravets started crying and told them he didn’t feel well.
Cravets is charged with armed robbery, use of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and burglary. He has previously served prison time. Jackson has a lengthy arrest record, having recently been released from prison.
Sheriff Jim Matthews : Congratulate the homeowner because he did a heck of a job.
