Dashcams have been installed into police vehicles to help protect officers and show how things unfold during a call. However, when two officers from Schaumburg, Illinois approached a frantic woman on the side of the road, the dashcam footage captures the officers engaging in what would be unimaginable for most of us.
The frantic woman, Sonia Melendez, had spent the day with her 18-month-old granddaughter, Aureliana. Unfortunately, Aureliana began to choke on something in the backseat, and the grandmother began to panic. She quickly pulled over, took her granddaughter out of the car, and called 911 for help.
“She was sucking on her pacifier, but her eyes were rolling to the back of her head,” Sonia explained, according to Jumble Joy. Luckily, a stranger noticed something was wrong and pulled over to help – eventually taking over the call with the 911 dispatcher. Thankfully, O’Connor and Poradzisz were not far away.
When they arrived on the scene, which had to be an unimaginable sight, they immediately leapt from their car to help the young girl. They quickly performed the Heimlich maneuver to clear the girl’s air passageway and were lucky enough to bring the girl back to consciousness after performing CPR. When the young girl let out a cry, “It was like the best noise you ever heard,” explained O’Connor, according to 5 News.
Shortly after the officers’ heroic deed, emergency personnel arrived and transported the youngster to a nearby hospital. It was determined that the young girl had suffered a febrile seizure caused by a viral infection. While she was recovering, doctors admitted that Aureliana wouldn’t have survived if the officers hadn’t intervened.
It’s a shame that our country has gotten to a point where officers need a dashcam to validate their story. However, there are instances like this that the dashcam footage captures a remarkable incident, one that the average person couldn’t even begin to imagine finding themselves in. It’s time we start giving law enforcement officers the respect and recognition they deserve.
police officers put their own lives on the line to make sure you and your loved ones are safe, and they end up in situations beyond our wildest dreams. Can you imagine going to work and later holding a lifeless child in your arms as you try desperately to save her? Most of us can’t, but those are the situations officers may face any given day while they are “just doing their job.”
